Print Quality is Poor or Contains Errors IP2700 & IP2300

Cannot Print to End of Job
Ensure that the Page Size setting in the printer driver matches the size of the paper loaded in the printer.
First, check the Page Size setting in the application program.
Then, check the Page Size setting in the Page Setup tab of the printer driver for Windows or the Page Setup dialog box of the printer driver for Macintosh.
Check the amount of free space on the hard disk.
You may need to increase the amount of free space on the disk by deleting any unnecessary files.
Check the size of the print data.
For Windows XP and Windows 2000, if the size of the data is too large, part of it may be lost. When the spool format is EMF, follow the procedure below.
(1) Open the Printer Properties dialog box.

See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu

(2) On the Page Setup tab, click Print Options.
(3) Select the Reduce spool data size check box and click OK.
Note
When Reduce spool data size is selected, the print quality may be degraded.

 Colors are Unclear
Ensure that the Media Type setting in the printer driver matches the type of the paper loaded in the printer.
If you are printing a photograph or an illustration from a Windows environment, also increase the Print Quality on the Main tab. If you are working in a Macintosh environment, select Quality & Media from the pop-up menu in the Print dialog box, and then click Printing a top-quality photo or Printing tables and charts.
Ensure that the specified FINE Cartridge is installed.
If the specified FINE Cartridge is not used, good printing color quality cannot be expected.
Remove the FINE Cartridge once, then insert it into place again.
Ensure that there is ink left.
Print Nozzle Check Pattern, and check if there is ink left.
If there are either missing lines or white stripes in the nozzle check pattern, perform the Print Head Cleaning or Print Head Deep Cleaning. If the problem still remains, the FINE cartridge may run out of ink.
When a FINE Cartridge runs out of ink, replace it with a new one.
If the specified FINE Cartridge is not used, good printing color quality cannot be expected.
Note
Printed colors may not match screen colors perfectly due to basic differences in the methods used to produce colors. Color control settings and environmental differences can also affect how colors appear on the screen.

Printing is Blurred/Not Printed/Colors are Wrong
Remove the FINE Cartridge once, then insert it into place again.
Ensure that the appropriate paper is selected for the printer driver.
Ensure that the paper selected for Media Type under the Main tab (Windows) or Print dialog box (Macintosh) matches the paper loaded in the printer.
Print the nozzle check pattern to ensure that ink is ejected properly.
If the nozzle check pattern is not printed correctly, clean the Print Head.
If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the Print Head twice, carry out a Print Head Deep Cleaning. When you still are not able to resolve the printing problem, replace the FINE Cartridge with a new one.
Ensure that you set the print media on the correct side.
You can only print on one side of certain media. Note that misuse of printing on either side of the paper may cause ink to spread or print in the wrong color.

 Straight Lines are Misaligned
Check whether the Paper Thickness Lever position is correct.
Align the Print Head.
(1) Open the Printer Properties dialog box.

See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu

Part or Entire Line and/or Image Has Not been Printed (In Windows XP or Windows 2000)
On the Page Setup tab, click Print Options, and select Reduce spool data size.
When the Reduce spool data size is set, the print quality may be lowered. Under scaled printing, fine lines may not be printed.
Thin lines may not be printed when printing with the Page Layout Printing or printing with binding margin function. Try making the lines of the document bolder and thicker.

Printed Paper Curls or Ink Blots
We recommend that you use a photo paper such as Photo Paper Pro, when you print a photograph or dense colored picture that consumes large amount of ink.
Ensure that the appropriate paper is selected in the printer driver.
Check that the paper selected for the Media Type under the Main tab (Windows), or Print dialog box (Macintosh), matches the paper loaded in the printer.
Reduce the Intensity setting in the printer driver and try printing again.
(1) Open the Printer Properties dialog box.

See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu

(2) On the Main tab, select Manual for Color/Intensity, and then click Set.
(3) Drag the Intensity slide bar to adjust the intensity.
(1) Open the Print dialog box.
The Print dialog box can be opened by selecting Print from the File menu in your application program.
(2) Select Color Options from the pop-up menu.
(3) Drag the Intensity slide bar to adjust the intensity.
In the printer driver settings, select a higher Print Quality setting.
This reduces ink blots even on paper where a lot of colors and black are required.
In the printer driver settings, specify the Ink Drying Wait Time.
This sets the time enough to dry the printed page preventing it from curling and preventing ink blots. Specify the Ink Drying Wait Time in Custom Settings on the Maintenance tab (Windows) or the Canon IJ Printer Utility dialog box (Macintosh).

 Back of Paper is Smudged
Clean the inside of the printer.
If the inside of the printer is dirty, the printed paper may be smudged. Periodically clean the inside of the printer.
If the next page prints before the ink is dry, specify the Ink Drying Wait Time.
When printing a photograph or picture that takes longer time to dry ink, the next paper may be output before the previous paper is completely dried.
You can either remove each printed sheet as soon as it is printed, or specify the Ink Drying Wait Time to pause after each sheet has been printed.
(1) Ensure that the printer is turned on and open the Printer Properties dialog box.

See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu

(2) Click the Maintenance tab.
(3) Click Custom Settings to open the Custom Settings dialog box.
(4) Drag the Ink Drying Wait Time slide bar, and then click Send.

(4) Click the Roller Cleaning icon.
(5) The confirmation message is displayed. Follow the instruction on the screen.

 Printed Surface is Scratched
Ensure that you are using suitable paper.
The paper weight must be less than 105 gsm (28 lb).
If you use non-Canon genuine specialty paper heavier than 105 gsm (28 lb), the Print Head may scratch the printed surface.
See Compatible Media Types, and check if paper type is suitable for printing.
All papers must flat and not curled.
If all four corners or the printing surface of the paper is curled, the paper may become dirty or not feed properly through the printer. Use paper that has been properly flattened as follows.
(1) Place the curled paper with the face of the printing surface up*1. Then place a non-printing piece of regular paper over it to avoid damaging the surface.
(2) Roll the papers up together in the direction opposite of the curled side of the paper (shown in the figure below).

(3) Check the paper to be printed. The curl must be corrected to within approximately 2 to 5 mm*2 to be usable.
It is recommended to use curl-corrected paper one sheet at a time (not stacked).

When printing on thick paper, set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right*.
This widens the gap between the Print Head and the paper. Try this maneuver as well, if the paper is scratched when printing on plain paper.
*Return the Paper Thickness Lever to the left position after printing.
Reduce the Intensity setting for the printer driver and try printing again.
When printing an image with high intensity, especially on plain paper, the paper may absorb too much ink and become wavy. This may cause the printed surface to become scratched.
(1) Open the Printer Properties dialog box.

See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box from your Application Program

(2) On the Main tab, select Manual for Color/Intensity, and then click Set.
(3) Drag the Intensity slide bar to adjust the intensity.

Ensure that you are printing within the recommended printing area.

 White Streaks are Visible
Print the nozzle check pattern to ensure that the ink is ejected properly.
If the nozzle check pattern is not printed correctly, clean the Print Head.
If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the Print Head twice, carry out Print Head Deep Cleaning. When you still are not able to resolve the printing problem, replace the FINE Cartridge with a new one.
Remove the FINE Cartridge once, then insert it into place again.
Ensure that the setting of the printer matches the type of the paper selected.
Printing with the wrong media type setting may reduce the print quality.
Increase the Print Quality setting in the printer driver settings.
Set Print Quality in the printer driver setting screen.
